Who are we?

Danish Refugee Council is the largest humanitarian NGO in Denmark. We are working in around 40 countries worldwide as well as in Denmark to fulfil our vision that no refugee should lack protection and durable solutions and that no one who wishes to integrate into Danish society should lack help to do so. We have 5,500 employees internationally and 1,000 in Denmark, and we are still growing. Our headquarters are located in the center of Copenhagen, near the metro and public transportation.

We are seeking highly qualified staff to the international part of our Finance Department. Our Finance Department is one of the 4 support functions in headquarters and consists of 42 talented and dedicated people who are responsible for DRC’s financial affairs globally in close cooperation with the operation. You will be part of our international finance team of International Business Controllers and International Accountants and get to perform tasks that relate to donor projects focused on both operating and monitoring.

About the job
In the Finance Department, we undertake a number of tasks; budgeting, annual reporting, project accounting, business controlling, treasury management as well as guidelines and tools etc.

It is crucial for us that we are a technically sound, efficient and responsible partner that can provide high-quality services to the rest of the organization. We are in the process of completing a process of decentralization, which means new challenges for the role of International Business controller, where the focus has moved away from accounting and towards business controlling.  The purpose of the position is to provide proactive financial support related to international activities. Help identify the risks and drivers and make valuable contribution to decision making.

Your tasks will change as we decentralize most of our operational tasks for our over 150 offices globally, so as to focus on the term will be on controlling and support – including training and risk management.

The tasks will in the beginning of the period of employment be:

  • All operational aspects regarding donor projects – from creation to the preparation of financial statements to donors, including contact with the external auditor. Our main donors are international organisations like the UN, EU, DANIDA and the US Government
  • Monitoring and controlling related to projects, You must be prepared for about 3-4 travels to our overseas offices per year, equivalent to 20-35 days of travel
  • Advice and sparring with colleagues at our overseas offices and at headquarters
  • Training of colleagues in internal procedures and risk management
  • Various ad hoc tasks

About you
It is important that you have a structured and pro-active approach to your work and take pride in delivering a high quality. It is also important that you are good to follow up and to complete your tasks.

Moreover, we also expect the following:

  • Solid controller and accounting experience, preferably from an international organization
  • Ability to translate accounting issues to manageable solutions and you are comfortable bringing these solutions to your colleagues and manager; .
  • Have attention to detail and also could keep the overview
  • Experienced user of Excel
  • Solid knowledge of ERP systems (Navision) and accounting principles
  • Good language skills – both written and spoken English. It is a significant advantage if you have excellent written and verbal communication skills in French

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with the agreement between DRC and relevant organisation. This is a national position for which local terms and conditions apply.
