Location: Copenhagen, Denmark

 

 

EuroMed Rights (Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Network) invites candidates to apply for the position of Head of Finance based in its headquarters in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Background

EuroMed Rights is a network of over 70 human rights organisations in 30 countries. Our mission is to promote and strengthen human rights and democratic reform within the framework of the Euro-Mediterranean relations, European Neighbourhood Policy and other EU-Arab cooperation frameworks. EuroMed Rights seeks to develop and strengthen partnerships between NGOs in the EuroMed region, disseminate human rights values and increase members’ capacity in this regard. EuroMed Rights organisational structure is built on a general assembly, an executive committee and a secretariat. The secretariat, with 33 employees, is located in Copenhagen with offices in Brussels, Paris and Tunis.

 

Strenghtening EuroMed Rights finance work

As Head of Finance, you will work with a team of Administrative and Financial Officers (in charge of the bookkeeping) with the responsibility of financial management, statements and reporting and for implementing proper procedures for bookkeeping, accounting and reporting in relation to EuroMed Rights annual and project accounts (2016 budget of 3.7M€ with 10 main grants; on top of the overall annual accounts, an average of 6-8 project accounts are to be established each year).  You will refer to the Director of the Administration Finances and Human Resources Department, but also report directly to the Executive Director on overall financial issues and advise the management group on financial matters. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Prepare financial statements, budgets and liquidity accounts for EuroMed Rights management and executive bodies, as well as EuroMed Rights accounts and project accounts.
  • Supervise and monitor EuroMed Rights financial procedures and ensure that financial obligations vis-à-vis donors are met; implement corrective actions when necessary.
  • Maintain regular contacts with auditors, bank and tax authorities.
  • Implement and update accounting and bookkeeping procedures, including codes of accounts, for the proper implementation of projects and grants.
  • Advise and train staff in budget and account management.
  • Prepare regular project budget updates as well as budgets for funding application.
  • Servicing the EuroMed Foundation of Support to Human Rights Defenders, a sister organisation to EuroMed Rights located in the same offices (approximately 25% of the time).

Your qualifications and core competences

  • Finance or accounting degree (minimum at Master level) or similar education or experience.
  • Minimum five-seven years of professional accounting and finance experience, preferably in a NGO or NGO-like organisation working with donor-funded programs.
  • Experience with management of complex financial portfolios.
  • Experience with managing the year-end account process.
  • Knowledge of and previous experience with grant policies and procedures of the EU and/or Danida and/or Sida.
  • Proficiency with financial accounting software, preferably Navision 2013.
  • Good communication skills (oral and written), and ability to draft clearly and succinctly.
  • Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, Internet).
  • Good analytical skills, organised and with capacity to deal effectively with changing priorities, to keep strict deadlines and to deal with several projects simultaneously.
  • Languages:
    • Excellent spoken and written English (English being working language).
    • Applicants able to communicate in Danish will have an advantage.
    • Knowledge of French will be considered as an advantage as well.

Terms and Conditions

Duty station: Copenhagen, Denmark

Duration: time-unlimited contract with a 3-month trial period.

Start of the assignment: as soon as possible.

Work: 37 hours per week. Some overtime work is to be expected in shorter periods in relation to the financial year’s closure.

Holiday: 6 weeks per year.

Travels:  a few travels to EuroMed Rights other offices are to be expected each year.

Salary: according to EuroMed Rights salary scale based on the salary scale for Danish civil servants.
