Increased migration flows to Europe have instigated political interest in combating the root causes of migration. It has also led to an increased focus on cooperation with countries that are strategically important from a migration perspective.

However, what are the consequences of the current migration situation for the volume and orientation of official development assistance (ODA)? What can actually be categorized as ODA? How much of ODA can be re-allocated for in-donor refugee costs?

How do European countries, including Denmark, deal with this issue? And what are the consequences for aid effectiveness when aid is used for migration purposes?

To investigate the response of European donors (Denmark, Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands and the European Union), the Swedish Expert Group for Aid Studies (EBA) recently commissioned a study from the European Centre for Development Policy Management (ECDPM).

During this seminar the authors of the report present the main findings of the study and discuss the possible consequences for European aid policy in general and Danish aid policy and practice in particular with experts from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark and DIIS.
