Head of Fundraising

 

 

International Media Support (IMS) is seeking an experienced fundraiser for resource mobilisation and development of strategic partnerships

International Media Support (IMS) is a non-profit organisation working to support media in countries affected by armed conflict, human insecurity and political transition. Across four continents, IMS helps to strengthen professional journalism and ensure that media can operate in challenging circumstances. IMS headquarters is based in Copenhagen with a staff worldwide of approximately 90 people.

Job summary

At IMS we are looking to want to diversify our revenue base by identifying new sources of funding, financing and income for our work to support independent and reliable media around the world. Therefore, we are looking for an experienced fundraiser to lead the development of an ambitious fundraising strategy for IMS.

The Head of Fundraising will refer directly to the Executive Director of IMS. The scope of the role will be divided into five main responsibilities:

Main responsibilities

Strategy & management

  • Provide strategic leadership of IMS’ fundraising strategy and lead the implementation of this;

  • Translate IMS’ strategic priorities and objectives into proposals for public and private donors, in collaboration with IMS management and programme departments;

  • Develop and expand our donor pipeline and ensure that IMS’ revenue base increases over the next three to five years;

  • Develop organisational policies, practices and procedures on fundraising and ensure implementation.

Private sector

  • Identify, develop and refine funding and financing opportunities from corporate sector partners and ensure continued engagement;

  • Pitching relevant funding and financing packages to potential corporate funders;

  • Increase funding from private foundations.

Public sector

  • Diversify IMS’ public funding portfolio and tap into unexplored thematic funding streams;

  • Leverage and strengthen existing donor relations and maintain level of core funding;

  • Provide advice and facilitate development of fundraising strategies in programme countries.

EU/US funding

  • Monitor & identify new opportunities within EU/US funding streams;

  • Coordinate in house efforts in relation to EU/US tenders and calls.

Collaboration, monitoring & coordination

  • Systematically screen the donor landscape and monitor tendencies in donor policies and priorities;

  • Collect information and ensure that this is kept up to date for existing donors and prospect portfolio as part of a wider prospect management system;

  • Coordinate and manage tender processes and calls for proposals and ensure consistency in fundraising efforts across the organisation.

Qualifications and skills

  • Proven track record in driving and developing funding opportunities from a variety of sources and turning them into results;

  • Solid experience with resource mobilisation, fundraising activities and tender processes;

  • Ability to effectively coordinate proposal development and reporting processes with the input of multiple stakeholders;

  • Experience with development of procedures and guidelines and implementation of these;

  • Excellent communication, organisational and planning skills;

  • Ability to produce high quality written output;

  • Excellent command of English, oral and written (French is an asset, but not a requirement).

  • Strong team-working skills and the ability to handle many tasks at once while working independently;

  • Strong interdisciplinary and intercultural team-working skills;

  • Good at building external and internal relationships at all levels;

  • Ability to work under pressure and to meet targets and deadlines;

  • Ability to react quickly to changing priorities.

Duration and location

The fundraiser position is full time. Compensation commensurate with experience and IMS policies. Duty station: IMS headquarters, Copenhagen, Denmark. Frequent travel activity must be expected. Starting date: As soon as possible.
