Job: Advisor, Global Partnerships and Donor Relations, DanChurchAid – Copenhagen, Denmark

Advisor, Global Partnerships and Donor Relations

DanChurchAid (DCA) is looking for a committed and energetic person with documented experience fundraising from international donors, that can help us further grow and develop our funding portfolio for our programs in Africa, Asia and the Middle East. The successful candidate will become part of the DCA Global Partnerships and Donor Relations (GPDR) unit in our Copenhagen HQ and will be responsible for support to a number of country offices and thematic portfolios.

The GPDR Unit works to ensure sustainable financing for our programs worldwide, ensure quality in project design, build capacity among DCA and partner staff for project development and grants management and develop and maintain relations with a large network of donors in donor capitals and at country levels. We keep abreast of funding trends and donor priorities and ensure that knowledge and analysis is disseminated across the organisation; we provide responsive and timely assistance to country office requests for support and when necessary we take the lead in coordinating project development processes for global projects or where strategic opportunities arise.

The job is characterized by shifting and often tight deadlines and a large interface with internal and external stakeholders. For the right candidate it offers the chance to work across several of DCA’s thematic focus areas, in close cooperation with country level and HQ colleagues and a number of external interlocutors. It offers the opportunity to shape how we design, implement and communicate about our projects and build bridges between the priorities of international donors and DCA’s work in support of some of the poorest and most
Our key donors include the EU, US and UN and, increasingly, Trust Funds and international foundations, and experience with such donors and civil society organisations will be an advantage, as will experience in some of DCA’s thematic focus areas such as food security, civil society support, value chains and market oriented approaches, climate change or humanitarian action. More importantly, though, the successful candidate will be able to learn quickly, be a good proposal writer, a networker, facilitator and coordinator, service oriented and able to seek, identify and develop strategic opportunities for DCA to continue to grow across its geographical and thematic focus areas.

Your tasks will include

  • Analysing donor policies and priorities for selected priority donors and thematic funding opportunities and disseminate knowledge and analysis to relevant colleagues in Denmark and abroad
  • Establish relations with existing and new priority donors, enhance DCA visibility, promote projects for funding and explore opportunities for further engagement between donors and DCA technical experts and country representatives
  • Support a number of country offices in developing fundraising strategies and increasing branding and visibility among donors at country level and in donor capitals
  • Support project design and proposal writing processes, in cooperation with country offices and HQ units, and where necessary, take the lead in identifying opportunities, idea generation, feasibility analysis, project design and proposal writing, in particular for strategic priority projects
  • Advise country office teams on grants management, including contract negotiation, donor compliance, visibility and reporting
  • Support GPDR’s capacity building activities through the development of online and face-to-face training packages in proposal development, reporting, compliance and delivery of training at country levels.

Your experience, skills and competencies will ideally include

  • The ability to design and coordinate project development processes with a variety of stakeholders and hands-on experience in project design, proposal development and grants management for major international donors in thematics relevant to DCA.
  • The ability to analyse donor priorities and match with DCA focus and capacities and develop strategies for donor liaison and engagement accordingly. Experience in managing donor relations with international donors an advantage.
  • The ability to build networks and relations with internal and external stakeholders to ensure buy-in to DCA’s project design processes and donor relations work
  • A service oriented and can-do mind-set that enables you to both function as a service provider to country offices and HQ units and take the lead where opportunities arise and your skills and experience can be of particular value
  • Experience in writing briefing notes and designing training material desirable. Experience in delivering trainings and/or facilitating workshops an advantage.
  • Knowledge of one or more of DCA’s focus areas, incl. but not limited to food security, civil society support and youth engagement, value chains and market oriented approaches, climate change, refugees and migration or humanitarian action, an advantage
  • Relevant higher education.
  • Ability to travel to country offices in Asia, Middle East and/or Africa – sometimes on short notice – to assist in- or lead project design and proposal writing processes
  • Fluency in English a necessity, knowledge of other relevant languages an added advantage.
