Job: DanChurchAid is looking for a Roving Humanitarian Expert

Roving Humanitarian Expert

Are you keen to be an active member in a global humanitarian team responsible for DanChurchAid’s (DCAs) emergency response projects? The successful candidate for this job is kicking down doors; able to advise through all the phases of the project cycle in emergency response, but also a good fundraiser. This person is a kick-starter and motivator and a good team player. Moving in and out of chaotic environments, the ideal candidate will identify priorities and targets, rapidly mobilizing DCAs teams to move towards implementation. This is a roving position, and can be based at DCAs Headquarter in Copenhagen or at a DCA field office in Africa or Asia, depending on what works. We’re willing to be flexible for the right candidate, someone with the right skills and experience, who wants a mix of home and field based, with up to 90 – 150 days of travelling per year to different country missions in Africa, Asia and the Middle East.

The position is a fixed-term position with a 2-year contract from the 1st of October 2018 or soonest possible thereafter, with possibility for renewal.

Key Competencies
You will be part of DCAs team of roving humanitarian response personnel, supporting our humanitarian response operations in Africa, the Middle East and Asia.

This person will have a broad range of humanitarian competencies and experiences in their tool box. While a specific sectoral specialism isn’t strictly necessary, a broad knowledge of humanitarian response, and specific knowledge about livelihoods or cash transfer programing, is. The successful candidate knows enough about all the key sectors to be able to critically engage with sectoral experts, and to be able to identify which needs are the highest priority. Communications skills and the ability to get along with others in stressful situations are imperative. The ideal candidate will be good at writing, can crank out a log frame and a budget in no time, and represent DCA well at coordination meetings. Above all, this person is a robust and flexible team player, and a good communicator and trainer.

Flexibility
If you’re looking for a lot of routine tasks, in the same office in the same field with a predictable routine, then look elsewhere. If you’re looking for a job where you are expected to arrive in a new country and be able to contribute in a short time frame, where there is always a new challenge and opportunity to learn, then is the job for you.

Educational Requirements
Humanitarian experience is more important than education. Your CV shows that you understand the importance of the role of an Advisor. Our experience with disaster projects and international donors, shows that you can advise and support for writing applications, design projects, quality assure ongoing projects, and network. The ideal candidate will be up to date on key innovations in humanitarian assistance, including Market based livelihoods interventions and Cash Transfer Programming, key areas of expertise for DanChurchAid.
