WHEAT activities and projects range from advanced research to delivery and focus on low- and middle-income wheat-producing countries of East Asia, South Asia, Central and West Asia and North Africa (CWANA), sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America.

The Independent Steering Committee, where John R. Porter is now appointed chair, helps set priorities and implement and review research-for-development for the WHEAT management.

“I am very proud and pleased to be elected as chair of the Steering Committee of WHEAT, a global alliance for productive, climate-resilient, and profitable wheat agri-food systems in lower and middle-income countries,” says John R. Porter.

According to Porter, WHEAT is actively and effectively catalyzing and coordinating the efforts of CGIAR scientists, farmers, governments and private companies all over the world to develop and share climate-smart innovations that increase farm resilience and productivity while reducing the climate footprint of wheat-based agriculture.
