Hvor langt er Etiopien nået med industrialiseringen?

BOOK LAUNCH AND SEMINAR
Made in Africa: Industrial Policy in Ethiopia’ (Oxford University Press 2015)
by DR ARKEBE OQUBAY

Gratis adgang. Mødet foregår på engelsk.

Offering an African perspective on economic transformation, industrialization and policy making, the author of Made in Africa presents the findings of original field research into the design, practice, and varied outcomes of industrial policy in the cement, leather and leather products, and floriculture sectors in Ethiopia.

The book explores how and why the outcomes of industrial policy are shaped by particular factors in these industries. It also examines industrial structures and associated global value chains to demonstrate the challenges faced by African firms in international markets.

The findings are discussed against the backdrop of renewed interest in ‘industrial policy’ more generally among economists and international organizations, and with reference to the history of thought about and practice in industrialization.

DR ARKEBE OQUBAY is a Minister and Special Advisor to the Prime Minister of Ethiopia. He is the former mayor of Addis Ababa, pioneering the transformation of the city under his leadership. In recognition of this, he was awarded ‘The Best African Mayor of 2006’ by ABN.

Dr Arkebe serves as chairman and vice chair of boards of directors of many leading public organisations, such as the Ethiopian Railway Corporation (ERC), Ethiopian Airlines (EAL), and Industrial Parks Development Corporation (IPDC).

He is also a board member of the Ethiopian Investment Board (EIB) and National Export Coordinating Committee (NECC).
