Programme Coordinator in DanChurchAid’s Humanitarian Team (HRMA)

Do you thrive in an environment with a multitude of tasks and changing contexts? Are you motivated by tight deadlines, and the need to juggle between the role as a facilitator, motivator, supporter and coordinator? And can you maintain an overview and instil clarity on processes? 

The Programme Coordinator supports DCA’s humanitarian programmes with grants management, project support, administration and M&E. The Programme Coordinator will be working under the management and guidance of the Team Leader of the Programme Support Team.

The DCA Humanitarian Response and Mine Action (HRMA) Unit currently consists of 23 employees including 4 roving experts based outside DCA HQ in Copenhagen. The unit consist of three teams each with a team leader managed by the Head of Unit. The humanitarian programmes include strategic interventions in areas of humanitarian mine action and protection, cash-based programming and risk education, emergency livelihoods, psycho-social support, risk mitigation and capacity building of local actors.

HRMA provides advise, support and QA to humanitarian operations in which DCA is doing direct, co- or partner-led implementation and ensures coordination of the support provided to the humanitarian operations including back stopping support on fundraising efforts, grant managements, monitoring of budgets and project/programme implementation and compliance to donor requirements. 

Key tasks and responsibilities:
Grants management and fundraising
  • Support Country Programmes in development of humanitarian response and humanitarian mine action projects in coordination with GPDR (DCA fundraising unit)
  • Ensure high quality donor proposals through QA and dialogue with programmes (including DANIDA, EU and US requirements) 
  • Ensure that programme documentation is timely produced, including Reports to document outputs and outcomes 

Project Support and Administration

  • Ensure that programmes and projects are timely implemented in accordance with Programme Strategies and project documents
  • Support DCA Programme Managers (PMs) and Head of Programmes in understanding and utilising the DCA administrative procedures for humanitarian response
  • Responsible for timely use of all donor funds including Danida earmarked, unearmarked and special grants in specific geographical areas
  • Ensure that all humanitarian country programmes and partners have established procedures in line with the Core Humanitarian Standards
  • Undertake regular programme monitoring visit


Key Competencies
The successful candidate will have documented experience with grants management and project support within the humanitarian sector. You should:

  • Demonstrate understanding of the project management cycle including log frames, Theory of Change and M&E
  • Have proven experience in writing proposals and reports to institutional donors such as Danida, US Department of State, EU.
  • Fluency in English is a must
  • working knowledge of a Scandinavian language and/or French is an advantage.
  • Have a degree in international development, social or political science or equivalent.
  • Preferably have a background in humanitarian assistance and/or mine action
  • Be able to travel – a minimum of 6-8 weeks of annual international travel should be expected
  • Be committed, flexible, result oriented and possess strong interpersonal skills. 
  • Be a persuasive and clear communicator, with an eye for detail.
  • Have the ability to manage a busy workday with conflicting deadlines, and have an organised, structured approach.
