DIRECTOR OF POLICY AND PROGRAMME DEVELOPMENT

 

 

INTERNATIONAL DEPARTMENT

Save the Children Denmark (SCD) is a member of Save the Children International (SCI), one of the world’s leading Child Rights-based organizations. We focus on programs for children and youth in fragile states.

SCD International Department works on behalf of Save the Children internationally to develop high-level expertise in different programmatic areas.  You will work together with your section, which consists of an Evidence and Learning team and an Education and Youth Engagement team, along with other nationally and internationally based technical experts with a focus on partnerships, child protection and advocacy.

You will refer to the Head of the International Department and become part of the newly established management team. You will have many different stakeholders and work closely with highly specialized and engaged colleagues throughout the national and international organization.

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for the development of SCDs primary programmatic focus areas 

  • Support and guide the team to define and build overall, effective and usable common approaches and ways of working within SCD’s primary thematic focus areas.
  • Help to build expertise within SCI globally and at regional and country levels.
  • Ensures that SCD’s programmatic inputs are of a global standard
  • Foster collaboration with appropriate academic and research institutions.
  • Ensures the continuous development of expertise and competence in the section in SCD’s thematic and programmatic approach specializations. 

 

Position SCD/SCI as credible experts in areas of specialization

  • Ensure that SCD is positioned and perceived as credible experts in its areas of specialization, both within Save the Children Internationally, as well as with relevant external institutions globally.
  • Represent SCD within Save the Children on fora related to programme development and quality.
  • Influences major actors, promotes, and builds support for and awareness of the section’s expertise, approaches and methods.  Ensures the methods are recognized as best practice, and are effectively used by Save the Children internationally, as well as externally.

Provide strategic and daily leadership to your section.

  • Setting direction and delivering results through your team and ensure the section delivers on strategic objectives
  • Leading, inspiring and developing direct reports

 

YOUR PROFESSIONAL PROFILE

You have a Master’s degree for example in development studies, a social science or related. Possibly, you have a Ph.D. as well.

  • An advanced level of programmatic expertise and thorough understanding of the key theoretical and practical considerations around engaging in programme approaches.
  • Proven experience with both longer-term development and humanitarian programming in a variety of contexts, including fragile states. 
  • Relevant country office experience at a senior management level, for example Country Director or Director of Programme Quality.
  • Strong technical and professional skills in one or more of Save the Children’s thematic priority areas.
  • Proven experience creating and driving the execution of visionary strategies and plans, including proven experience anticipating future consequences and trends accurately and communicating credible visions, possibilities and likelihoods.
  • Motivational leader with proven experience in managing highly professional employees and preferably leaders with diverse backgrounds, including employee development and performance management.
  • Strong and demonstrated negotiation skills and experience from a membership/alliance based org.
  • A high level of written and oral English is essential. 
  • Proven experience in project management in complex organizations.

You visionary and innovative mindset is combined with the ability to frame and implement evidence-based solutions that ensure enduring transformation for children

 

CONDITIONS AND RECRUITMENT PROCESS

You will be employed according to the terms of individual leader contract Agreement between Save the Children Denmark and the AC organizations and HK. The position is without limited working hours. Expected start January 2018.
