Can you coordinate Save the Children Humanitarian Intermediate Program (SHIP) and enable Save the Children’s capacity to respond to emergencies and thereby make a difference in the lives of children living in some of the most challenging humanitarian contexts around the globe? At Save the Children Denmark (SCD), a member of Save the Children International (SCI), we focus on humanitarian work and programmes for children in fragile states. As part of SCDs humanitarian team, the purpose of the SHIP Coordinator role is to keep strengthen the broader Save the Children staff’s capacity to respond with quality and effectiveness in humanitarian interventions.  

You will become part of a dynamic organization with a strong drive to influence and make a change. You will work closely with engaged colleagues both within your own Humanitarian Section, the International Programme department, across departments in SCD, SCI and with other SC members as well as partners.

 

PROJECT MANAGEMENT OF SHIP TRAINING

This position will provide the day-day task related to managing the SHIP program. You will be responsible for all aspects of the program from development, execution and coordination of the training across multiple locations depending on SHIP requests. This includes maintaining the Distance Learning platform, being the contact person for SHIP participants and facilitators and ensuring practical support is made available for the face-to-face training component.

 

Key tasks of yours will be

  • Coordinate the selection of participants with Steering group members, maintain communication with participants
  • Develop and responsible for a detailed programme implementation plan and ensures programme timeline and milestones are adhered to.
  • Develop the budget and monitors budget vs accruals  
  • Organise and coordinate F2F training (including practical arrangements, logistics and communication with the venue)
  • Coordinate selection of facilitators (in consultation with the SHIP steering group), maintain communication to and briefing of facilitators/mentors  
  • Responsible of DL content development of core content (in consultation with the SHIP Steering Group) ensuring a high quality and revision as required by development within the SC organisation and priorities.
  • Conducts evaluation and synthesizes findings after each SHIP and present to the SG
  • Reports to SHIP steering group on programme issues (incl. budget vs expenses etc)

Expected travel

  • Approx. 3 weeks in connection to each SHIP. The ambition is to conduct 3-4 SHIP’s in 2018.

 

YOUR PROFESSIONAL PROFILE

You have recently completed a relevant tertiary academic education at a Bachelors level or higher. For example, in development studies, a social science area or related. Additionally, you have min. 1 year of humanitarian or project management experience. The ideal candidate will furthermore have:

  • Previous experience with coordinating training, both distance learning and F2F.
  • Demonstrated experience in humanitarian response and programming ao. identification and management of organizational and operational risks.
  • Demonstrated political and cultural sensitivity with qualities of patience, tact and diplomacy
  • Proven ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Capacity and willingness to be extremely flexible and accommodating in difficult and sometimes insecure working circumstances.
  • A high level of written and spoken English

CONDITIONS & RECRUITMENT PROCESS

You will be employed according to the terms and conditions of the local Collective Agreement between Save the Children Denmark and the relevant unions. The position is an AC classification with 37 working hours per week. 12 month contract with the potential for extension.
