Seminar: Sammenhængen mellem korruptionsbekæmpelse og militær kapacitetsopbygning i skrøbelige stater (København)

Corruption is a main driver of insecurity and violent extremism in fragile states. It weakens the effectiveness and legitimacy of state institutions and leaves ordinary people angry and disenfranchised.

Zooming in on the role of military institutions, this seminar explores how the fight against corruption can be both helped and hindered by international security assistance.

Speakers at the seminar include two highly renowned experts on corruption in military institutions: Mark Pyman from the Strategy and Security Institute, University of Exeter, and Karolina MacLachlan from Transparency International London. Also speaking will be Colonel Flemming Agerskov, the former head of NATO’s special anti-corruption unit in Afghanistan.

Drawing on lessons and field-based evidence from reform efforts in countries as diverse as Afghanistan, Burundi, Colombia, Mali and Ukraine, the speakers will provide a state-of-the art overview of how different approaches may take root in different contexts. Furthermore, they will point to issues on which more knowledge is needed to help guide the international policy debate.
