Ida Jeng has worked for the Centre for Humanitarian Data, a new ‘data-startup’ within the United Nations. Inspired by the possibilities of new technology, Ida leads OCHA’s data lab in Nairobi, Kenya, covering 25 countries in East and Southern Africa.

OCHA er FN-systemets humanitære koordinationskontor og har hovedkvarter i Geneve i Schweiz. Se https://www.unocha.org

The Lab promotes the use of data to save lives during emergencies and identifies, prototypes and scales new partnerships and solutions.

Moved by the plight of refugees, Ida serves as the co-chair of Techfugees Kenya (a charity that coordinates the tech industry’s response to the needs of refugees).

Prior to joining OCHA, Ida Jeng worked as a director for the award-winning technology organization, Refugees United (REFUNITE), and spent nearly five years working at the forefront of mobile projects in refugee camps.

REFUNITE runs the world’s largest missing persons platform, helping 700,000 refugees reconnect with their families through mobile.

She is specialized in communication, digital media and humanitarian innovation and has worked for the United Nations in New York, as a blogger for the national Danish newspaper “Politiken”, as a communication advisor for a PR firm, and as joint project by UNDP’s Nordic Office and DanChurchAid (Folkekirkens Nødhjælp).

Ida Jeng is Danish-Gambian and has studied at University of Cambridge, Copenhagen University and more.

Ida Jeng fortsætter: “I will be working for the Office of the Danish Tech Ambassador, a new kind of diplomatic representation with a global mandate and team. Our new hubs are based in Silicon Valley, Copenhagen and Beijing. After several years in New York and Nairobi, I look forward to working in Asia”.

“This also means a sad farewell to a magical chapter in Kenya, our close friends, my job as a data lab manager for The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, the REFUNITE family, and everyone who made this journey in Africa so special”

“From artificiel intelligence to machine learning and big data, the TechPlomacy team will explore how tech can help address global challenges. I will be working with different countries, tech giants, hubs, startups, nonprofits, universities, governments, and international organisations”, slutter Ida Jeng.
