Cambodias war crimes tribunal

In February a UN-assisted tribunal under Cambodian jurisdiction to try the leaders of the former Khmer Rouge regime for their crimes was finally started.

Kaeng Kek Eav, also called Duch, who oversaw the Tuol Sleng interrogation centre in Phnom Phen where thousands of people were tortured to death, is the first of the five defendants to appear before the tribunal.

Anya Palm, freelance journalist specializing in Southeast Asia and Cambodia, in this weeks In Focus blog on the AsiaPortal (see below) comments on the trial, in a follow-up to last weeks In Focus blog.

Links to extensive background information can be found in the accompanying In Focus folder.

We warmly welcome researchers, students, experts and others to comment on the article or to contact us on [email protected] if you are interested in participating with a blog article in future In Focus themes or maybe even in acting as theme editor for a series of articles on the blog.
