Nestle Thursday became the first of the four dominant global coffee companies to launch a product with the “fair trade”label, amid some concerns that a proliferation of different marks would confuse consumers, reports the World Bank press review Friday.
The move represents a shift in policy for Nestle, which had previously warned that paying farmers above-market prices for coffee might encourage over-production and further declines in the global market price.
