Nordisk Institut for Asien-studier (NIAS) i København publicerar en “In Focus blog” på Asienportalen.asiaportal.info, där vi ber nordiska asienforskare kommentera aktuella frågor med anknytning till Asien.
Denna vecka (vecka 10) har vi en blog som vår egen forskare Timo Kivimäki skrivit om Europas politik för Burma som kanske kunde vara av intresse för era läsare. Alla är välkomna att kommentera på inläggen på In Focus bloggen.
Vi fokuserar på ett nytt tema varje vecka på Asienportalens In Focus sektion, med viss oregelbundenhet, och varje bloggartikel ackompanjeras av bakgrundsmaterial från andra sektioner på Asienportalen.
Vi tar gärna emot förslag på teman eller bloggartiklar från andra forskare, studenter, handläggare eller andra initierade och intresserade av Asienfrågor.

Europe and the suffering of the people of Burma
The fate of the Rohingya people reverted our attention to the suffering of the people of Burma. In this weeks In Focus blog on the Asiaportal Timo Kivimäki, Senior Researcher at NIAS, tries to identify a more flexible and sophisticated strategy from Europe for helping the people of Burma.
This strategy would involve identifying opportunities to work on humanitarian and development issues despite the government tactics that are not approved of. At the same time, it would mean a flexible strategy of supporting the progressive initiatives and people in the government and opposing the less progressive people and projects.
