UN envoys warn Darfur “getting out of control”
EL-GENEINA, 11 February (IRIN): An offensive by government-backed militia in northern West Darfur has destroyed two towns that had hosted thousands of internally displaced persons (IDPs – hjemstavnsfordrevne), sources said.
Aid workers in the area said the attackers had “burned to the ground” Abu Sorouj and Sirba towns, about 55 km north of El-Geneina, the capital of West Darfur, causing another 12.000 people to flee to neighbouring Chad.
