The government of Nepal and Maoist guerrillas have signed a peace accord, declaring a formal end to a 10-year rebel insurgency, BBC Online reports Tuesday afternoon.
Under the agreement, the rebels will be able to join a transitional government in the Himalayan nation. Weapons used by the rebels will be placed under UN supervision as part of the deal.
More than 13.000 people have been killed in violence in Nepal since the insurgency began a decade ago.
