Fjerkrænetværket indbyder til 2 dages international workshop i København den 30. og 31. august over temaet “Does poultry reduce poverty and assure food security? – A need for rethinking the approaches”.

Fra indbydelsen:

The Network for Smallholder Poultry Development recently finalised a review on the “Danida Support to the Livestock Sector – Smallholder Poultry Sub -Sector – in Bangladesh 1993 – 2005”. We would like to use the opportunity to discuss the findings from the review as well as experience and new approaches from other countries in an interdisciplinary forum with Danish and international colleagues.

The aim of the workshop is to review experiences and rethink approaches and to discuss among other questions:

– If rural development is about creating opportunities for the poor – is poultry production then the right tool?
– Will the poor benefit from privatisation of animal health and extension services?
– How will global markets affect the marketing strategies of poor poultry farmers?
– Does poultry alleviate poverty and create food security?
– Does poultry and micro-credit go hand in hand?
– Who will benefit from research on smallholder poultry?
– What are the best approaches for livestock development for the poor?
– Will poultry Farmer Field Schools make extension more demand driven?

The two-day programme will include invited presentations from scholars and implementers from the Networks partners in Bangladesh, Benin, Burkina Faso, Kenya, Senegal, Tanzania, Uganda and Vietnam as well as invited participants from Danida and the multilateral organisations such as ILRI, FAO, IFAD and the World Bank.
