Vietnams hurtige socioøkonomiske udvikling de seneste år har hjælpet til at forbedre levevilkårene for børn i landet, lyder det fra en rapport om vietnamesiske børn fra UNICEF, ifølge vovnews.vn tirsdag.
HANOI: The report said Vietnam has made great achievements in improving the quality of education and healthcare services. In the 1990-2006 period, the fatality rate was reduced by 50 percent, the number of schools with access to running water reached 80 percent and those with toilets reached 73 percent.
Lotta Sylwander, the Head of UNICEF in Vietnam, said Vietnam’s global integration, its golden population structure, and socio-economic development create not only opportunities but also challenges for children.
Although Vietnam has achieved much, there is much room for improvement, said Sylwander, adding that UNICEF will always be Vietnam’s reliable partner, who will do its best for the benefit of Vietnamese children.
Representatives from Vietnamese ministries and NGOs said the Government needs to introduce policies to mobilize all social resources to improve equality for children in rural and remote areas.
The report will help the Government as it is creating the Socio-Economic Development Plan for the next five years, with a focus on issues related to mothers and children, vovnews.vn writes on Tuesday.
