JUBA, 7. marts, 2013: At least 35 have been killed and several others are still missing following an inter-state cattle raid in South Sudan, officials said Thursday.
The violent raid took place in two cattle camps in Tonj South County, Warrap State, when armed youths crossed in from three counties in neighbouring Unity State.
“The youth came from Leer, Mayiendit and Mayom counties in Unity State to raid cattle. The cattle owners fought back,” said Leer County Commissioner, Dor Liah Diet.
“35 youth from the three counties were killed in the attack. More are still missing,” he said.
The mostly cattle keeping communities of South Sudan have longstanding disputes over water and grazing land.
