During 2017, DIIS will host a research initiative addressing the new and changing security dynamics and configurations in Europe’s southern neighborhood regions: the Maghreb and the Sahel, writes the Copenhagen-based institute in a press release.

The research initiative has an explicit policy orientation and aims to provide tangible political advise to Danish and international decision makers about how the international community can address the changing security configurations in Europe’s southern neighborhood regions.

The project will amongst other issues deal with the questions of state-fragility, radicalization and terrorism, organized crime and migration.

The project which brings together 14 internationally acclaimed experts and scholars on current affairs in the Maghreb and in the Sahel regions is co-directed by Senior Researcher at DIIS, Rasmus Alenius Boserup and Research Director at Sciences PO (Paris), Luis Martinez.

The Sahel-Maghreb Research Platform is funded by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and implemented by DIIS in collaboration with Voluntas Advisory
