Africa will veto any climate change deal that does not meet its demand for money from rich nations to cut the impact of global warming on the continent, Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi said on Thursday.

Meanwhile, arctic temperatures are now higher than at any time in the last 2000 years, research in the journal Science reveals.

In related news World Trade Organization Director-General Pascal Lamy warned Thursday that failure to find agreement at UN climate change talks in Copenhagen in December would threaten a much needed overhaul of the international trading system.

India will make fuel efficiency standards mandatory for the transport sector from 2011 as part of a growing suite of measures to fight climate change, Indian Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh said Wednesday.

Bangladesh will receive a 130 million US dollar credit from World Bank under a deal signed Wednesday to finance expansion of solar power system in rural areas and use of energy-saving lamps aiming to reduce consumption of electricity
