United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan Thursday welcomed the signing of a coalition agreement by Cambodias two main political parties that paves the way for the formation of a new government.
The accord between the Cambodian Peoples Party and the United National Front for an Independent, Neutral, Peaceful and Cooperative Cambodia (FUNCINPEC) was signed in the capital Phnom Penh nearly a year after elections were held.
– It is Mr. Annans sincere hope that the agreement will be quickly formalized by the appropriate organs, so that a new government will be established as soon as possible, a UN spokesman said.
