Disaggregating the Pakistani Taliban: Does the good, the bad and the ugly Taliban distinction represent a failed policy? Mona Kanwal Sheik, DIIS Brief: http://www.diis.dk/sw84539.asp
Dialogue with Pakistani Taliban?
Differences between Pakistani Taliban groups can be used politically
Discussions about a possible dialogue with Taliban have primarily focused on Afghan Taliban. However, many of the problems that NATO troops in Afghanistan are facing originate in the militant spillover from Pakistan.
In this DIIS Brief, Mona Sheik provides a detailed insight into the most important Pakistani Taliban factions. Against this background, it is recommended that USA and NATO pursue a policy of differentiation between various Taliban groups in other ways than has hitherto been the case.
The DIIS Brief appears on the occasion of a panel discussion at DIIS on Friday 18 September at 1 PM with the two Pakistan experts Mona Sheik, University of Copenhagen, and Laila Bohkhari, NUPI.
For details about the event, please see the programme of the seminar on Pakistani Taliban (i u-landsnyts kalender).
