River Ranch Diamond Mine plans to invest US$15 million in mine development and exploration in Zimbabwe, a top official of the company said at the weekend.

The mine which is located in Beitbridge is expecting to be producing and processing about 70.000 tonnes of ore a month. Mine development will involve widening the surface on the existing kimberlite to allow for more and easier excavation, while a second processing plant will be refurbished and commissioned to cater for increased ore output.

This investment comes at a time when the mine was caught in a series of controversies involving ownership struggles that pitted Zimbabwe’s vice president Joice Mujuru and embattled former white commercial farmers.
