The Indian government is to kick-start its stalled privatization program, in a move that will lift morale among reformers struggling to impose their agenda on dissenting Communist coalition partners, the World Bank press review reports.
A white paper outlining privatization proposals will be presented to the next session of parliament, Palaniappan Chidambaram, finance minister, said Tuesday. The move comes one year after the Congress-led government came to power.
– We have been told to present a white paper on disinvestment and will do so in the monsoon (summer) session of parliament, Chidambaram said.
