The mandate of the UN Working Group on the issue of human rights and transnational corporations and other business enterprises (UNWG) is highly relevant for civil society, and particularly for indigenous peoples. So far the UNWG has mainly focused on business and paid little attention to civil society and the rights of indigenous peoples.

The fact that one of the individually appointed experts of the UNWG is an indigenous leader provides a valuable window of opportunity to put indigenous peoples’ human rights on the agenda of the UNWG.

Indigenous representatives will meet for 2 days in Copenhagen to discuss the challenges and opportunities of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and their engagement with the UN Working Group.

On this occasion there will be a dialogue, discussing initiatives, plans and visions for the work of the UN Working Group, as well as the UN Forum on Business and Human Rights.

Please register to this meeting no later than 2 November 2012 by writing to Kathrin Wessendorf: [email protected] and Caecilie Mikkelsen [email protected]
