Political violence, discriminatory legislation, and patriarchal attitudes are important challenges to women’s political participation. Civil society actors and researchers will address barriers and develop recommendations to strengthen women’s influence in countries in transition in North and Sub-Saharan Africa.
The conference is a part of the international campaign “16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence” focusing on women’s political participation in Sub-Saharan Africa and the MENA region – the barriers they meet, such as political violence, and strategies to overcome them.
The conference will present speeches by practitioners and researchers from Zimbabwe, the MENA region and Scandinavia, with Bjørn Førde (DIPD) as main facilitator.
