Hans Mouritzen and Anders Wivel have recently published the volume Explaining Foreign Policy: International Diplomacy and the Russo-Georgian War with the prestigious American publisher Lynne Rienner.

The authors use the example of the Russo-Georgian War to illustrate and evaluate their original model for explaining foreign policy behaviour. They apply the model to the diplomatic positionings of 40 countries in relation to the 2008 war. Uniquely linking system, interstate, and intrastate levels of explanation, and benefiting from WikiLeaks revelations, they offer an important new tool for foreign policy studies.

This arrangement is not only a book launch, but also a seminar on the state of foreign policy studies in general and the use of realism in particular. Moreover, current developments in southern Caucasus and Central Asia are highlighted and discussed. For this purpose, a number of renowned experts have been invited.
