“Still Alive” is a documentary that follows the lives of former gang members in Guatemala over a five-year period as they join an art collective amidst a climate of intense violence, displacement and a conflict rooted in a 36-year long civil war.

“Still Alive” tells a powerful story of reconciliation and personal transforma-tion, while at the same time exposing the challenges faced by the younger generations in Central America today.

The film is the result of Mischa Prince’s five-year journey to tell the story of two young Guatemalan men, Fu and Juan Carlos, who are part of the theatre group Caja Lúdica (Magic Box). Juan Carlos’ father was part of The Machine of Death in the genocide, a former death squad member.

Even before the film was finished, it won a couple of international prizes. Danida supported part of the production process.
