The Right to Development (R2D) is suffering from effects of the financial crisis. Professor Wang Xigen will discuss required and recommended steps for the recovery and progress of this critical and comprehensive rights area.

The global concept of human development should be reconstructed based on human rights accountability, measures to mainstream R2D into economic and social development are required and monitoring mechanisms should be set up.

In conclusion, Professor Wang will share his perspective on the question:

How would complete implementation of human rights accountability affect the fundamental design and content of the Millennium Development Goals framework post-2015?

Professor Manfred Nowak will comment on Professor Wang’s presentation, share some of his own views based on his extensive work on the issue area and suggest topics for plenary discussion.
