The Centre for Multiparty Democracy – Kenya (CMD-Kenya) and the Danish Liberal Democracy Programme (DLDP) have, with funds from DIPD, the last year collaborated and implemented a project in Kenya, which is focusing on youth engagement in party politics and strengthening internal and external communication among political parties in Kenya. The overall objective is to strengthen the democratic process across all political parties in Kenya.
The Executive Director of CMD-Kenya, Njeri Kabeberi, is visiting Denmark in September, and on this occasion DLDP and DIPD are organising a seminar on the democratic development in Kenya with special focus on the up-coming election in 2013.
Kenya is still recovering from the widespread political violence that swept across the country following the much disputed 2007 presidential election, which left 1500 killed and more than 300,000 people internally displaced.
Although the political climate in Kenya is still polarized, there are signs of a new political agenda emerging. Not least the 2010 adoption of a new constitution may be an important hallmark as the country approaches elections in 2013.
Programme:
• Introduction by Bo Manderup Jensen, Chairman of DLDP
• Presentation by Njeri Kabeberi, Executive Director CMD-Kenya
• Comments and discussion, Moderator Ulla Tørnæs, member of parliament and the DLDP Board
