Mens investeringerne fra Vesten tørrer ind i Afrika på grund af finanskrisen, træder Kina til med milliarder – her i det danske programsamarbejdsland Zambia:
Zambias government has signed an Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement (IPPA) with Zhonghui Mining Group of China that has committed to invest 3,6 billion US dollar (ca. 19 milliarder DKR) in mining projects on the Copperbelt and North-Western provinces.
The project is expected to create about 34.000 jobs.
Speaking at the signing ceremony in Lusaka Wednesday, Commerce, Trade and Industry Minister, Felix Mutati described the investment by Zhonghui mining as one of Chinas largest private sector investments in southern Africa.
Meawhile, a fourth batch of 21 Chinese experts contracted to build a modern stadium in Ndola in the Copperbelt arrived in Zambia Tuesday promising to complete the 40.000 capacity arena within the agreed 26 months.
Beijing Institute of Architectural Design (BIAD) representative, Li Bao Chen, said at the Lusaka International Airport that Chinese experts for this project were aware of what was expected from them.
Li said his countrymen were geared to build the ultra-modern stadium and hoped Zambians would support their efforts by facilitating the smooth construction of the stadium.
The Chinese are also going to contruct new stadia in the capital, Lusaka, and in Livingstone, bordering the Zambezi river.
