Det bliver med rykind af nogle af de tungeste aktører i international bistand, når Udenrigsministeriet og regeringen torsdag (25.03.10) er vært for en en-dags konference, der sætter spot på, hvor langt vi er nået med at opfylde målsætning nr. 3 i 2015 Målene, nemlig den om at styrke kvinders indflydelse og stilling i verden.
Blandt deltagerne er Verdensbankens præsident, Robert B. Zoellick, chefen for FNs Udviklingsprogram (UNDP), Helen Clark og lederen af FNs Befolkningsfond (UNFPA) Thoraya Obaid. Vært er udviklings-minister Søren Pind (V).
Konferencen skal varme op til et internationalt sammentræde i FN i New York til september, hvor der gøres status over 2015 Målene generelt. Formålet med Køberhavner-mødet er at pege på centrale anbefalinger til FN-topmødet for at speede vejen op mod 2015 Målenes særlige punkt om kvinders forhold.

In September 2010 the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) High-level Plenary Meeting will be held in New York. This is an important occasion to enhance global focus on develop-ment issues and achievement of the MDGs.
In order to ensure international focus on MDG3, the Da-nish Government will host an international High-level Conference on “Womens Empo-werment and Employment” in Copenhagen on the 25th of March, 2010.
MDG3 is not only a development goal in its own right, but also a means to achieve all the MDGs. In other words releasing women’s potential as drivers of change and development contains a tremendous potential, for which reason MDG3 is one of the main development policy priorities for Denmark.
In 2008 the MDG3 Torch Campaign – “MDG3 Global Call to Action” was initiated to enhance focus on gender equality and womens empower-ment. The conference on 25 March is an integral part of these efforts.
The conference is a one-day event with three panel discussions on key challenges to women’s increased employment opportunities:
* Promotion of favourable economic and legal framework,
* Crossing cultural and social barriers and
* Ensuring good health, including sexual and reproductive health and rights.
The main objective of the conference is to present specific recommen-dations for the MDG High-level Plenary Meeting in New York in September 2010.
Participation at the conference will be at high level and among others include World Bank President Robert Zoellick, Deputy-Secretary-General of the UN Asha-Rose Migiro, UNDP Administrator Helen Clark, UNPFA’s Executive Director Thoraya Obaid, UNIDO’s Director General Kandeh Yumkella, IFAD’s Vice President Yukiko Omura and ministers from a number of developing countries.
Present will also be representatives from African, Asian and Latin American NGOs and the private sector.
