The World Bank has granted 1,2 billion US dollar (5,6 milliarder DKR) to DR Congo (former Zaire) in development aid, its managing director Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala said Friday.
At the end of a visit to the vast Central African country, she said the money was granted to help finance projects in agriculture, forestry, water, energy, mining, infrastructure and other fields over the next three years. 300 million dollar will be handed over this year, she said.
The World Bank is helping DR Congo as part of its Emergency Demobilization and Reintegration Project to aid formerly war-torn countries make the transition to peace.
