“While everyone wanted Sierra Leone to move on after the November 17 elections, I didn’t expect the police and Attorney-General’s office to enable yesterday’s mass release of detainees and suspects, following a meeting between the leadership of the SLPP and President Koroma,” noted Ebrahim Tommy, Executive Director of the Centre for Accountability and rule of Law.
The activist believes one of two things may have happened: either the SLPP supporters committed the alleged offenses on the orders of their party leadership or that the police arrested them on trumped-up charges.
“Whatever it is, it is a step backward for accountability and respect for the rule of law,” he noted.
