The Danish Vietnamese Cultural Development and Exchange Fund (CDEF) has recently approved 10 cultural projects with a total funding of 61.180 US dollar.
Established in 2006, CDEF provides support to contemporary artists and cultural performances in Vietnam and to cultural exchange activities between Denmark and Vietnam.
Below you can read briefly about each project supported in early 2012.
YXINE FILM FESTIVAL (YxineFF) is an online short film festival held at www.yxineff.com. YxineFF aims at encouraging the independent filmmaking trend, which is booming among the youth, by creating a professional arena where young film makers can showcase their unique works to the audience. Supported with a grant of 5.000 dollar.
VISUALLY DEVISED THEATRE – exploring the power struggle between men and women is a theatre performance that brings together theatre and visual art to devise a piece of theatre performance exploring the theme of Feminism, power struggle between women and men, ideology of the “perfect” woman/man in the West versus the East. Supported with a grant of 5.200 dollar.
DREAM ABOUT A BLIND BIRD is a solo experimental theatre performance. Through personal stories about experiences or unreal space of thought, the performance questions the relationship between a female and the surrounding world.
The theatre performance is full of self-reflection as it reveals a method of stage setting in which each part of the performance is like an exercise to answer questions about how to implement an idea using multimedia materials. Supported with a grant of 3.600 dollar.
HANOI GRAPEVINE is a group promoting Vietnamese contemporary art. It is going to organise art talks and workshops based broadly on art events coming up in Hanoi, HCMC and potentially other places.
The objective is to build and increase audience awareness of art, particularly contemporary art. Furthermore, Hanoi Grapevine offers access to a database with information about artists – presenting artists’ CV, artworks, references and review. This will give readers more in-depth understanding about the contemporary artists in Vietnam. Supported with a grant of 5.000 dollar.
A SINGULAR VOICE – the Contemporary Journey of Ea Sola in Vietnam 1991 – 2012 is a presentation contributing to the appreciation of artistic innovation and the critical examination of contemporary and traditional dance and music in Vietnam.
It presents two major contemporary music and dance works of Ea Sola – Drought and Rain (1995/2011) and The White Body (2009). Furthermore it includes seminars, discussions and workshops on the development of contemporary dance and music in Vietnam. As the project is already funded in Hanoi, the Fund will support expenses for the show in Ho Chi Minh City with 15.000 dollar.
ERASABLE is an experimental art program that combines contemporary dance, music, visual art, and audience interaction. The performances will involve the participation of the audience, helping them to gain a better understanding and a friendlier view towards contemporary art. Supported with a grant of 7.100 dollar.
The ARTIST is a video installation and film project combining performance art, video art and cinema. Thematically, the artist is to continue with her deep interests in the history and development of artists’ role and position in the Vietnamese society. This project is the continuation, expansion and development of an initial video experiment supported by CDEF in 2010 at Nhasan Studio in Hanoi entitled Unsubtitled. Supported with a grant of 5.060 dollar.
HANOI RECITALS is a project in which Vietnamese and Danish composers and artists Tri Minh and Michael Møller and other artists together will create a new original neo-classic and cross-cultural work Hanoi Recitals, through collaborative composition, performances, and organisation of master classes in Hanoi, Hue, and Copenhagen. During all activities and all cities the artists will be recording to release Hanoi Recitals on CD. Supported with a grant of 8.620 dollar.
The CRESCENDO VOICE ECHOES is a public art project that encourages creative expression through the sharing of stories, visions, songs, and poetry of our time. The objective is, through collaboration with local artists, designers, filmmakers, musicians, writers, translators, and business professionals, to create a body of works that combine sculpture, text, performance, and video. Supported with a grant of 3.000 dollar.
CINEMA BOOKSHELF – the publishing of books about cinema is a project aiming to provide the general public, especially the youth, with basic knowledge on cinematic art – a so-called cinema bookshelf. It will help cinema lovers to enhance their ability to enjoy and appreciate the cinematic art. Supported with a grant of 3.600 dollar.
