The World Bank has offered up to 3,5 billion US dollar (henved 19 milliarder DKR) in zero-interest loans to Vietnam from next year through 2012 and is considering significant “budgetary support” this year, a spokesman said on Thursday.
– We are making a commitment of about 3 billion to 3,5 billion dollar in the next three years. The money is there. It is up to the government to propose a list of projects, said spokesman Nguyen Hong Ngan in Hanoi.
The funds, he added, could be used in “almost all sectors”. Vietnam could also access 1 billion to 1,5 billion dollar in non-concessionary loans that would come with a near-market rate, he said.
The Vietnamese Prime Minister said that Vietnam would step up coordination with the WB to draw up projects to use the WBs funding, focusing on transport infrastructure, energy, human resources development and healthcare services.
Meanwhile, the World Bank has urged the government in Hanoi “to speed up” the disbursement of 3,7 billion dollar which had been approved for the period between now and 2012.
Vietnam plans to use those funds to invest in infrastructure projects, including building roads, power plants, as well as human resources and healthcare for the 2010-2012 period, the government responded.
