The chairman of the Party for the Liberation of the Hutu People (Palipehutu), Etienne Karatasi, returned to Burundi on Friday following 39 years of exile in Denmark, Agence Burundaise de Presse (ABP) reported.
Arriving at the international airport in Bujumbura, Karatasi, 60, said a list of more than 2.000 of his combatants had been submitted to the ceasefire commission. He added that about 150 of his combatants had already assembled in the northwestern province of Cibitoke, and that others would join them shortly.
Karatasi said he was going to prepare for the upcoming elections.
He also said that the Agathon Rwasa-led Palipehutu-FNL (National Liberation Forces) and that of Alain Mugabarabona were wings of his party and consequently had to change the names of their groups because he was the legal agent for the party, ABP reported.
