EU environment ministers on Friday proposed the creation of a UN body to intensify global environmental protection.
The proposed UN body should be set up on the basis of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), seated in Nairobi, so as to make it one of the key UN agencies with steady flow of funds, according to a resolution adopted by the ministers of the 25-member bloc at the end of a one- day meeting.
The EU will take the proposal to the UN General Assembly in September, said the minister of Luxembourg, whose country holds the EU presidency until the end of this month.
