At least nine Bolivian miners have been killed and dozens injured in clashes over access rights at a tin mine, writes BBC online.

State-employed miners and those working for an independent co-operative used dynamite and guns to fight for control of the Huanuni mine, Bolivia’s largest.

The mine is owned by the state, but independent miners are demanding greater access.

The two groups of miners have agreed to halt fighting in order to bury the dead, a government official said.

More talks are to due to take place on Friday to try to find a permanent settlement.
