International donors at a mid-term Consultative Group (CG) meeting pointed to the need for Vietnam to consolidate its structural reforms, the World Bank said Friday.

– Donors and the government had a frank exchange of views on the need to consolidate structural reforms, especially in the financial sector, said the World Banks Country Director Klaus Rohland adding:

– They (donorerne, red.) emphasized the importance of clearly defining the government’s role as facilitator of private-sector driven growth, and to better integrate the planning and budgeting processes.

The donors, who pledged 3,4 billion US dollar in December for Vietnams poverty reduction in 2005 ended a two-day meeting in southern Can Tho city after taking stock of the countrys performance in the past six months.
