The head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Monday named Murilo Portugal, Brazils former Deputy Finance Minister, as its new Deputy Managing Director at a time when the Fund is sharpening its focus on rapidly emerging economies.
Portugal, who was Brazils Deputy Finance Minister from 2005-06 and represented Brazil and eight other Latin American countries on the IMF board between 1998-2005, will rejoin the IMF as it increases the voting power of fast-emerging nations and monitors more closely their economies.
