South Korean researchers on Tuesday said they have discovered a new needle-free vaccination approach that may be safer to use and elicit (fremkalde/fremprovokere) a broader range of immune responses than conventional methods.

The Seoul-based International Vaccine Institute said the novel approach calls for the administration of vaccines under the tongue, triggering immune responses in various mucosal (slim) tissues in the respiratory, (luftveje) digestive (fordøjelses) and reproductive tracts, which are major entry portals of pathogens (sygdomsfremkaldere) into the body.

Meanwhile, UN health officials warned Monday that developing countries are facing a growing cancer epidemic and expected to see more than two thirds of new cases worldwide over the next 10 years.

Some 84 million people risk dying from cancer over the next decade, the World Health Organization and the International Atomic Energy Agency said.
