In a new article on NAI Forum, NAI senior researcher Kjell Havnevik argues that a decision to be taken by Sida (det svenske Danida) could strengthen the conflict between the rich world and poor peasant farmers in Africa.

Sida is currently processing a preliminary application for loan guarantees for a major biofuel and forestry plantation project in Tanzania.

If Sida is to fulfil the main aims of Swedish development assistance – to reduce poverty, support women and improve the environment, it has strong reasons to decline this application, argues Kjell Havnevik.
