In 2013 DIIS celebrates its ten years anniversary. In this anniversary booklet you can read about the work and changes taking place at the institute during the ten years that have passed.
Back in 2003, DIIS was established by merging four small and different research institutes into one.
According to DIIS Director Nanna Hvidt, the aim at that time was to strengthen policy relevant and interdisciplinary research, and DIIS has lived up to that ambition, now ranking high among research-based think tanks internationally.
An important kind of research taking place at DIIS are the policy studies on development issues.
Helle Munk Ravnborg (blogger her på U-landsnyt.dk, red.) describes how this kind of studies have gained foothold as a flexible and demand-based instrument in development policy dialogue and implementation, and also helped establish a platform for interaction between researchers, policy-makers and development practitioners.
A special task undertaken by the institute has been a range of White Papers – for instance the white paper on the security threats towards Denmark during the Cold War.
Svend Aage Christensen explains the special character of this kind of report, based on the expertise of academia, administration and practitioners respectively.
Finally, the booklet presents the DIIS staff and research areas, DIIS’s new building, facts and figures about the institute and examples of publications by DIIS researchers and DIIS events.
