Nu flyder pengestrømmene endeligt fra Den Grønne Klimafond. Ved det semeste møde i Bahrain, der sluttede lørdag, godkendte bestyrelsen 19 nye projekter til en samlet værdi af lidt over 1 milliard dollar.
Der er bl.a. store millionbeløb til elektrificering af landlige områder i Burkina Faso, styrkelse af modstandsdygtigheden mod klimaændringer i kystområder i Indien, vedvarende energi i Tonga samt et institut for klimafinansiering i fire sydafrikanske lande.
Der blev ligeledes uddelt en lille slat til værtsnationen, som ellers ikke hører til de fattigste lande i verden, og et projekt, hvor FN’s Fødevare- og Landbrugsorganisation samarbejder med regeringen i El Salvador om landbrug i den “tørre korridor”.
Godkendelserne er godt nyt, da bestyrelsen ved det seneste møde, ikke fik godkendt et eneste projekt til trods for, at der lå ti på bordet.
Støtte til udviklingslandes klimaindsatser
Den Grønne Klimafond er oprettet under FN som en del af bestræbelserne på at skaffe støtte til fattige landes klimaindsats.
Fonden har nu i alt støttet 93 projekter med over 4,6 milliarder dollar. Den blev oprettet i 2010 og blev oprindeligt polstret med 10 milliarder dollar.
USA har trukket 2 milliarder, og da der er en bestemmelse om, at en proces for at finde flere midler skal startes, når 60% af pengebeholdningen er brugt, blev bestyrelsesmedlemmerne enige om at begynde processesen for genopfyldning nu.
Derudover blev 16 nye partnere godkendt. Det drejer sig om forskellige institutioner og organisationer, som gennemfører projekterne.
