Seminar: The four Sahelian challenges (København)

Challenges that have always confronted the Sahel through the last decade or so seem to have intensified and internationalised.

Contemporary social change in the region is the product of a complex mix of internal and external factors.

As such, the Sahel is an excellent example demonstrating that development and social change should be understood in an international context. Currently, however, that context does not bode well for the future of the region.

Having conducted research in the Sahel and in particular in Niger for more than 50 years, Jean-Pierre Olivier de Sardan will discuss contemporary challenges in the region in his presentation.

This he will do not only on the basis of an intimate knowledge of the region, but also a deep understanding of the interaction between local populations and international development actors.
