Seminar: Global trends in education: commercialization—why should we care?

Join us when the expert on global education Dr. Prachi Srivastava from the University of Western Ontario, Canada visits Denmark for a public lecture at DPU.

Globally, we see a growing number of non-state actors engaging in education in response to many educational challenges.

Dr. Prachi Srivastava has studied non-state actors and engagement in education and their potential impacts, including privatization and commercialization, with a focus on non-high-income countries. These are trends we see worldwide. She will provide an understanding of these global trends, which include introducing privatization measures in public education and increasing numbers of private schooling, some described as ‘low-fee’, and sometimes run by for-profit providers. These may benefit some but leave others, typically the most disadvantaged, behind.

She will seek to answer the question: ‘What is the commercialization of education and why should we care?’”
